Amsterdam - drink - 't Blauwe Theehuis

't Blauwe Theehuis

A blue, Bauhaus-style UFO in the center of Vondelpark, ‘t Blauwe Teehuis is a great spot to spend a sunny day.

The 'Blue Tea house' was built in 1937, after the original tea house burned down in the summer of 1936. The new version was built in a Dutch style similar to Bauhaus and it turned out to be a bit of a crazy looking pavilion - It's actually very similar to a flying saucer made out of concrete, steel and glass! After the mysterious murder of the previous owner the 'thee huis' re-opened for the third time in 1998. Apart from its rather dark history this crazy tea house is a fabulous and funky place to relax in the Vondel park. It's tricky to find between 'all those trees' but then all of a sudden it looms up and there it is - this nutty UFO that has lovely seats and lots of cold beer.. It also has an upstairs terrace with an awesome view. You can spend half a day here - easy..

why?

Because it's smack-bang in the middle of the park and has a terrace which can seat 700! And don't worry, tea is probably one of the last things they serve... ;)
