Who has never dreamt of partying the night away in an underground nuclear bunker? C’mon, don’t be shy; we know we couldn’t possibly be the only ones! Ok, so we’ll admit we didn’t really even know we wanted to party in a former nuclear bunker until we visited Prague. But when we discovered Bunkr Parukarka was the place to be, we just could not resist! What exactly is Bunkr Parukarka you ask? That would be a former nuclear bunker which dates back to the Cold War, and has now been transformed into an extremely unique bar.

Sure, all clubs in Berlin are crazy, but some grab their nutty factor and run – and run and run. In contrast to somber, concrete temples like Berghain or Tresor, these clubs have gone the Burning Man route with artsy labyrinths, enormous sculptures, and even floating swimming pools. Our recommendations are the places you’d want to write home about, if there was only an adequate way of describing them…

Kater Holzig Kater Holzig is for adults what the best playground is like for kids: a far-out place where no one judges you for playing hide-and-go-seek for hours. There’s wooden platforms, hidden bars, rows of confessional booths and cheeky artwork. While it’s open year-round, it reaches a peak of insanity when the whole place is opened up in the summer and for special events.

The Five Craziest Clubs in Berlin

Back in the day when I was still living in Amsterdam as a student, I used to work in O’ Donnell’s Irish bar for very mean Irish owner Seamus, so mean in fact that he rented the apartment across the road from the bar so he could watch through binoculars if we were drinking in the bar after work. Hell, we were but that certainly put a stop to that!

In any case its where I met a lot of Irish. Aye! Shane's, Sean's, Connor's & Cailin's all trooped over from Belfast & Dublin for the summer to work for grumpy old Seamus pulling beers, clearing tables and post-shift-drinking like, well.. the Irish.. And however much I thought I knew all the good stuff going on in the city I didn't. ‘Cos these guys did..

The little gigs that were on, the wee hidden clubs behind unmarked doors and the bars that stayed open way past their legal closing time, hidden behind heavy velvet curtains with the lights turned down low..

It's the non locals in the know..

Ok, ok we know we seem a little biased when it comes to Amsterdam clubs Roest & Canvas as we’re always posting about them on Facebook & Twitter! Admitted they get a lot of attention but that’s only because the nutcrackers behind both are always coming up with these highly creative and slightly crazy events and ideas which we love! Think organized water fights, tropical parties in the middle of winter or installing a massive pool in their giant warehouse to go with a Bay Watch themed night.. We’re all up for their weird & wonderful-ness which is why we were a little upset to hear of Canvas being closed for renovations.. Boo I hear you cry! But don't worry - we are stoked to announce their new enterprise Doka which we've classed as equally cool as Canvas albeit a tad more raw and raucous..

New Amsterdam Club DOKA delivers..
