This hidden treasure in Clapham is accessed by a remarkably unremarkable door on a residential looking street. Ring the buzzer, -what's your name-, get buzzed in and make your way up the stairs to lovely relaxing four o nine. It's almost like you're visiting a friend for dinner albeit one that cooks exceptionally well! When we were there we had a starter of twice baked stilton soufflé with a grilled treviso & apple salad & candied chestnuts followed by roast hake with carrot fondue, smoked eel, roasted beetroot, steamed bok choi & orange beurre blanc.. All ab-so-lut-ely delicious! You can also come for afternoon tea which includes scones, chocolate éclairs, sandwiches and chocolate hazelnut brownies..
Oh, and we heard that if you whisper sweet nothings to the four o nine staff they might tell you about their late-night cocktail bar, Clubhouse.. www.fouronine.co.uk/clubhouse
The warm welcome, elegant decor and mouthwatering creations more than compensate the 20 minute tube journey into Clapham North..
