One of the best gelaterie in Rome is Gelateria del Teatro, near Piazza Navona but on a quiet little street known for antique shops. This charming spot features invented flavors like honey and lavender, basil and white chocolate, raspberry and sage, and cheese and cherry. It also sells decadent chocolates and truffles. There is always a crowd of gorgeous Romans (even in winter!), as it’s just far enough from the beaten path that most tourists don't even know it's there. The place itself is darling, with mosaic tables outside to rest your legs while you indulge. Step away from the brightly lit chain stores on the big streets and go here for the real stuff.
The strange flavor combinations sound gimmicky but will actually make your eyes roll back in their sockets. Also, it’s one of the few gelaterie in Rome with a good selection of dairy-free options, and maybe the only place with gluten-free cones (as well as gluten-full cones).
