Forget about the hustle and bustle off the city centre, the North is where it's at! Take the short ferry ride over 't IJ' to NSDM and check out all the fresh ideas that are going on here..
The NDSM -wharf is a disused ship yard and Pllek is a cafe/ restaurant located right on this city beach. In between huge industrial constructions and rusty boats are brightly colored shipping containers brilliantly filled with: a bar, a cafe serving (organic) lunch & dinner and large sink-in leather Chesterfield's in a row looking right out over the water.. Genius.
Concrete floors and drift wood are mixed with huge Persian rugs, plenty of colour and a ginormous disco ball. Outside on the beach you'll find deck chairs, wooden boats sawn in half functioning as benches, open fires and a very serious looking DJ set up..
We had a tasty lunch here which was served by a pink-glitter-hat wearing girl whom was just lovely..
Watch these guys and their plans on the Pllek website as there is often theatre, live music and other interesting stuff going on here..
