London - eat - Polpo

Polpo

A happening Venetian spot with small dishes and a Campari bar

Londoners love this buzzy Venetian style 'Bacaro' in the middle of Soho and who can blame them? Occupying the ground floor and basement of an early 18th century building (once home to Italian painter Canaletto!), Polpo's menu consists of cicheti (snacks) and irresistible small plates. Favorites include: fritto misto, lamb & pistachio meatballs and pork belly, radicchio & hazelnuts.. Prices and servings allow you to indulge and many wines can be ordered by carafe. Bookings are taken for lunch only so expect a wait for dinner. Trust me - this is a good thing though, as the Campari bar downstairs (which seems to be solely illuminated by the 'millions' of tea lights dotted all over this basement bar) serves scrumptious snacks and has a lovely Campari based cocktail menu.. Ooh and a Spritz Aperol just happens to be my favorite drink..

why?

Because Venetian dishes in a 'bacaro' environment is definitely a new thing in London. I love the 'squatter chic' interior and the staff are brilliant - I think Polpo's a hit!
